For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 175 Member | | Member Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 175 | Am in the midst of a frame up resto of a 49 1/2 ton Chevy. My dilemma is whether or not to tear down the rear end to rebuild. The truck was running OK when I started and I'm wondering if this is necessary. As a minimum what should be done to the rear end? Would like to hear thoughts of others who have been there Thanks | | | | | Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 504 Member | | Member Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 504 | If I were on your shoes I would do something about the original 4:11 ratio. Whether you go the Patrick's route or change to a more modern set-up, you will be glad you did something about getting your speed up and your engine rpm's down..
I drive my truck quite a bit. When I plan my route I try to avoid the highway as much as possible. There are times though, when you need to get out there and get moving. I have the Patrick's 3:55's and never go above 60. For me, that was the best money I spent on the truck. It makes it a lot more practical to take on a trip and enjoy..
