Any opinions on which of these filters would set off my 49 216 best? I think the Inner Line is more rare but does it have any drawbacks? Currently using the AC but wonder if anyone that has the Inner Line in use could offer any pros/cons.

These are oil filters. The AC hangs on the intake manifold and connects to the block with 2 hoses whereas the Inner Line mounts directly to the block in place of the oil distributor valve cover below the exhaust pipe.

I'm familiar with the AC ones hung on the intake manifold, and see no reason not to use one.

But I'm not familiar with the "Inner Line" filter you mention.
Do you have pictures and more info on it?

The "Inner Line" bolts on in place of the oil distributor valve cover. Oil is fed through the filter and exits only through the feed to the rocker arm, not to the rods. The feed to the rods remains the same. If you have the low pressure motor with the short side cover, the filter will have no exit path, otherwise they work just fine.

I guess these are really rare since there's no input from anyone who has used it. I guess since my '52 216 has the full side cover that this filter will work just fine. Having trouble posting a pcture. Happy New Year to all bolters out there.

I am having trouble "visualizing" the problem that might occur using the Inner Line oil filter on short side-cover low-pressure 235s. I am "flying blind" with no pictures and no recent experience with a low-pressure 216/235. Also, I have only seen an Inner Line filter on a block (and have never seen how one is plumbed).

As I recall, the oil distributor that the Inner Line filter connects-to is on the manifold side of the block; and, the high side cover vs the short side cover (1950-53 235) is on the other side of the block.

How would the different side cover make a difference in the operation of the Inner Line operation?

Sorry this took so long.

Inner Line by-pass oil filter attached in place of the oil-distributor cover-plate on low-pressure 216 and 235 engines.

If anyone has any corrections, suggestions, or comments, please post them (or send me a PM). I'll add photos of an installed filter if anyone sends them to be.

If I did not give proper reference to owners of photos, please let me know.

if you look at your photos of the oil distributor gasket, you will see three oil holes. The middle one is the valve, the larger of the outside ones feeds the rods and the smaller one feeds the rocker arm. That smaller hole feeds back into the block and comes out where the external oil line emerges in a U bend. That oil line goes through the water jacket and up under the side cover to the rocker arm. On the 216 with the short side cover, the rocker arm is fed from the rear camshaft oil gallery and that line coming through the water jacket doesn't exist. The small exit hole in the block also does not exist. The Inliner filter is made so that the filtered oil can only exit through that hole.

Any filter on a 216 is gonna pull the oil pressure down to much for my liking. I'd just as soon change oil more often.

No not at all Tim, it's I that should be appologizing, those last two are in fact the ones that Daved sent you. So do you want me to remove them from my album? PM me if it's a problem. I've got a whole folder of different filters and I just down loaded a handfull of pictures to use in future discussions.

I'm sure about the four preceding pictures, because I've been trying to talk my buddy out of that filter if he pulls the 216 out of his truck.

Ed, where did you find that "Inner Line" sticker, I don't think I've seen them before in any of the vendors catalogs.
