Shifter linkage on my 68 C-20 binds terribly getting it into first during cold weather and now is hardly catching first at all. I'm told I might need to replace the 'mass assembly,' and that these are real, real hard to find. Any advice and info greatly appreciated.
Regards,

I remember welding one up and building the material back up in an old ford van. Spend an afternoon, and hardly any money. Made it shift much better.
I did have to take a good portion of it apart to get in there to do the work.

If you remove the roll pin that holds it into the column and take the lever out, look at the pin with the ball on the end of the lever. This is what engages the shift tube inside the column. I've seen this pin be almost broken off or real worn making shifts hard if not possible. | | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 99 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2009 Posts: 99 | x2 all of the above, but in my case replacing the bushings/gromets everywhere fixed the problem. But these shifters were not up to todays standards and were meant to be shifted with care slowly.

Thanks for all the info. Got a good stock truck I'm trying to keep that way. And as advised in one of these posts, I take 'er slow and shift 'er gentle.
