I have a 64 GMC C-15 that I would like to convert to disc brakes. I've recently read somewhere (but can't re-find the article) that a guy can use the complete cross member and disc set up from newer trucks. Can anyone tell me what the year spread is for a complete doner set up. With my GMC being a 3/4 ton I really want to stick to eight bolt wheels.
Thanks in advance! Art

You could also use up to '91, but it would have to sourced from either a 3/4 ton Suburban or an the R30 series ('87 style) truck, which are usually either Crew cab or Chassis Cab. Alternitavely, you could just swap the spindles, if you're only after the disk brakes. You'll have to swap out the balljoints (I think only the lowers on 3/4 ton, have to check the Moog book to be sure) and the outer tie rods. Other wise, it's a bolt on.

Thank you for the information, then I already have a line on a doner truck where I can get the needed parts for near nothing. I would also switch to a power steering box at the same time. Saw an article about using the CPP box to frame adapter somewhere too. I appreciate your input!

Will the '73-'87 spindle and brake parts bolt up to it also? Or, because it has the torsion bars is it not an option to swap spindles and rotors, etc.? Would I want to go the complete crossmember hub-to-hub route and will the '73-'87 front end bolt in without major fabrication and thus replace the torsion bar setup?

The spindles won't swap into the torsion bar balljoints. The lowers are main stumbling block, the uppers are actually the same up to '70. I seem to recall that there are a few guys on here that have doe the crossmember swap on the torsion bar trucks, might try a search on the site for additional information.
