Finally, I'm getting around to posting my 1946/47, or a 1947 “First Series”, or you can say “early ‘47” or "47.1" 1 Ton Chevy Panel Truck. The title says 1947.

This truck was built at the Norwood, Ohio plant (north side of Cincinnati) in March 1947. The 1 Ton Commercial series, Model DS, was only made from 5-1-46 to 5-31-47. But I do have to be careful and order parts for a ’46.

This truck has about 46000 miles, and it has never been outside, since new, except from about May to October. No rust. None! Just the opposite of most of my projects. I'm the third owner, and have the truck about ten years. Problem now is that a hit-and-run driver passed on the right when I was turning right, caught the front corner big-time, and so I now have whole front end off to repair, and rebuilding the engine, new wiring harness, etc., while I'm there. Has a 235 full-pressure engine now, so I'm staying with that.

1 Tons are cool. Heavy enough springs I could load it with bricks. Enough power to pull out a tree stump. Slow enough I get to see all the scenery.

Hi Doug,
Sad news about the 'fender bender', I hope no-one was seriously hurt.
What a beautiful truck you've got.
Good luck with the repair/rebuild work.

Jock,

Thanks. Nothing hurt except my feelings, and my future schedule on too many other unfinished projects. Maybe I should have just let the insurance company pay to put it back like before the wreck; smokey, leaky stovebolt, brittle wiring, and all. But someday I'll be glad I went to all this trouble.

Scotland, huh? Must be an interesting story for your California truck. Looking good so far.

Doug

Hey Doug, bummer about the fender bender. Did they ever catch the guy? Truck looks very nice, hope you can get her back together.

Leo,

Nope. Sheriff, and a driver behind me who chased them for 4 miles, then lost them, both looked, never found them. I'd say they made a fast trip somewhere close and hid that darn little S-10 in Grandpa's barn for a while. My guess: no insurance, no license, no backbone.

Oh, well. Gotta move on.

Doug

Wow, that truck is a beauty! It must be fun to drive.

Is that your 30 Chevy? That is a real beauty too.

Just a little more info. on my Early '47 1 Ton Chevy Panel truck. The original owner, an amazing man, blind since very young, had a brand new, very fancy, Cretors Popcorn Wagon that he with his driver pulled with this truck to north-central Ohio fairs and events. I'll add some old photos to the Photobucket site that show this truck pulling that Cretors wagon, on a Model A Chassis, and one also showing it pulling a closed van trailer. These show why the truck was ordered as a hefty 1 Ton, to pull these loads. I would love to find more history on, or actually find, that old Cretors popcorn wagon, with it's fancy cut-glass windows, on that special car chassis.
