Has anyone every swapped a 55 or 56 Chevy car dash into a 1955 2nd series truck?

Does anyone know how easy, or even if they are close enough to do this?

Saw a 1954 Chevy car that Chip Foose had added a 56 Chevy dash to. It really looked great.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Anything is possible but you would have to have some pretty good metal working and fabrication skills I would imagine.

There was a posting of a TF with a Tri-5 dash in it about a year ago. I am sure it was here on the bolt. It required some sectioning of the length and blending at the windshield, but looked real nice.

Thanks Mike thats really nice of you to say. I don't post here that often because people do not seem interested in the kind of stuff I do (this site seem to be more for the stock people), but I still stop in every now and then to see others projects. Once again thanks

Don't be a stranger mkabwe. Personally, I love 'em whether they're stock or not and I know that many others feel the same. Keep us in the loop on what you are doing.

DADSUB - The answer is yes, someone has done that swap and it looks great. Check out mkabwe's photos if you haven't already.

WOW MKABWE your work in incredible. I wish I had that kind of talent.

I am building my dads 1955 suburban that he bought in 1958. Put the MII front clip on and just got a 5.3L with a 4L60E engine and trans for it. Going to try and build some motor mounts and set the engine in the frame soon.

I don't think I'll be able to do as nice as you on the body build, but I've really been thinking about trying to swap in the 55/56 car dash. I think I might have to try and remove the flange seam at the top of the firewall too. Hope you don't mind me copying some of your ideas.

How well did the car dash fit the windshield area? Looks like you also sectioned it. Did you modify the ends or just mold them into the truck windshield pillars?

Sorry for so many questions. It's just exciting to be able to talk with someone who has gone and done some of the things we just dream of doing.

The dash was not sectioned but it was trimed, relief cut, and I molded it to the a pillars and I also added metal and tubing to make it flow. I don't mind that you take some ideas as long as you pay me.lol Man take what you want I'm not the first or the last to have these ideas. But take them and make them your own then it has you stamped on it.

DADSSUB,

I forgot to mention that I have a 5.3 with a 4L60E also, I was going to use it for my truck but I changed my mind. If you look at my site you will find I change my mind quite often.lol I have a couple of more mods I going to do and I can start to getting her ready for paint. I'm building a 383 stroker roller block that will be back with a 700r4.

Have you done all the body modifications with a mig or tig welder? I have a Miller 140 mig welder. Don't know how to tig weld. I know it is the best for light gauge metal.

I have located a 55 car dash and I have a spare truck dash, so I'm going to see what happens.
