Do these wheels have the old-school clips for hubcaps? Any problems with backspace or other issues if I mount these on a '49 1/2-ton? I want a wheel that will accept 215/85/16 radials and the original '49 hubcaps. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 293 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 293 | Dead silence, so let me rephrase the question... How wide are the 16-inch, six- lug stock wheels on late 50's and early 60's Chevys? I want to install 215x85x16 tires, so I'm looking for a donor truck with 5.5 to 6-inch wide wheels. I'd also like to use my original '49 hubcaps if that's possible. Hubcaps have an 8-inch inside diameter. Thanks. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | they're 5.5 and 6", and up to '60 they have the clips to take the caps, 3 clips rather than the earlier 6, but should work

They look just like the 54 originals. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 293 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 293 | Thank you. Any idea what year the stock 16-inch, 6-lug wheels went from 5.5 to 6.0 inches wide? And what year did they go from 6 clips to 3 clips? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | 3 clips started by 55.2 at least and went until 60 when they quit using them, any earlier I've seen were 6, but later wheels still have the holes for mounting the clips and some of the vendors carry the clips .... most 55-59 wheels I've seen are 5 1/2" but I have seen some 6"
