I do not have trouble in starting but when I drive any distance, cut the engine off and try to restart it is very difficult to restart. Sometimes I have to use the carb. starting fluid to get it to go.
I have replaced the alternator, regulator, starter, battery, plugs, plug wires, carburator, fuel pump, thermostat, added a heaver battery cable, new points and rotor, added fenton headers and have flowmaster dual exhaust. It seems like everything is there. I'm baffled.

#58886 04/08/2006 12:48 PM | Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 586 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 586 | 8thairforce,It does sound like you are getting vapor lock.Make sure your fuel lines are away from the exhaust manifold and heat.It is best to run the lines as close to where the factory ran them as possible.You could also try to insulate the lines with cloth heat wrap like is used on aircraft engines.We used to call it fire hose.Let us know how you make out.

This is a fuel problem, not a spark or temperature problem, from your description. With all the threads on clogs from old tanks, I would look into the fuel supply part of the system. Start at the tank and work your way toward the carb. Maybe you get enough flow to idle but not enough flow for driving?? | | |

Next time you shut it off hot, pull the air cleaner and work the throttle. If your accelerator pump is squirting gas it's probably not vapor lock.
