Today I bought a GMC 453 Fire Truck.

It can be seen here

http://home.comcast.net/~chriseye/images/ft1.jpg

I don't know what I will end up doing with it.

The options are

1. Restore it.
2. Take its 302 for my 1 ton, and sell the rest.
3. Build a smaller (1/2 or 3/4 ton) pickup with the fire truck cab.

I really don't need another project.

No, I don't have a clue which company did it. It has a Van Pelt Pump. I think that Van Pelt built trucks as well as the pumps. So maybe it is a Van Pelt.

Someone posted a link on here to an ebay auction. Only one person placed a bid and did not meet the reserve. So I contacted the seller and made a deal.
After more research, I am thinking that it is a Van Pelt Truck.
I am puzzled about the bed. At first, I and the previous owner thought that the rear part of the fire truck body had been removed, and the truck had been converted into a flat bed. But after inspecting the bed, I can see that at one time the bed was two feet shorter, leaving a 2 foot space between the cab and the bed. Spmeone extended the bed to reach the cab. From underneath, it looks like a factory bed. Yesterday, U saw my friend Rusty's truck which alway looked wierd to me because his bed has a 2 foot gap between it and the cab. So maybe his truck was originally the same?

Could be a possibility that there were sides on the bed, and that the bed on the truck now was/is the original hose bed with the body/sides removed? The 2 foot space could have been for a water tank?

No 'bolt yet, but if you'd like to help me out with that, send me a message! Or check out my wanted add in the swap meet.
