I'm updating my brakes but I want to keep my 3 speed column shift.
Everywhere I call, they say the power brake booster kit's wont work frame mounted units because they interfere with the tranny shift linkages.
I'm sure I'm not the first person to try and update this model truck to power assist brakes....
What's the solution? Firewall mount? No power assist? Some mystery kit that I can't find on the internet?
Your help will be greatly appreciated!
| | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,097 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,097 | I don't know who you are talking to but I have installed several of the aftermarket booster/master upgrades on TF trucks. I did the conversion on my 56 over 10 years ago with a kit from ABS in Orange, CA. I have a 3 speed OD trans and there are no clearance issues with the column shift rods or anything else. Brothers, CPP and many other suppliers have the kits as well.
I think there may be some issues with clearances on AD trucks, perhaps the person you contacted was mixed up on the year or series.

They also have a shop where they develop and install conversions unlike many suppliers that just push parts across the counter and don't know if they will fit or not. Fred
