I would like to know what rear springs most of you use after you do a rear end swap. Do you use the original springs? This question would be directed at 1950-53 1/2 tons.

I used a '55 first series rear end and springs. They bolt right up to the existing shackles.

I used the rear spring kit from TCI. it is a direct bolt in and it also centers the axle in the wheel wells. 4 inch drop also

I also used a kit but from Chassis Engineering.also a bolt in and centered up the axle, almost a 5" drop.........dave

I'm not wanting to lower it so aftermarket springs are out. How many used the stock springs and how did you do it?

Mike,
My 52 uses the original rear springs, although they are mounted below the axle for lowering. The previous owner did this work and near as I can tell he fabbed his own lower spring pad/shock mount. As far as I know the rear end is a 10 bolt from a Nova[not sure what year]. I imagine you could mount the springs like stock by making your own upper pad/shock mount and using proper sized U bolts. Just make sure you center the wheels in the fenders.

I used a spring set from TCI. I don't intend on pulling and hauling heavy loads in my 3600 and I knew how stiff those original springs were.

The locating pin on the spring pack is set up for the pivoting axle mount for the torque tube on the original AD trucks. If you use the mounting kit from CPP, it has an offset hole in the spring perch to center the rear axle on the stock springs. If you rolled your own for spring perches, you have at least two choices. First, you could drill an offset hole in the perch. Second, you could turn the springs around. If you swap ends with the spring it will move the locating pin closer to the center. This requires removing the bushings from the spring eyes and swapping them. A moderate amount of work, but you needed to replace the 50 year old ones anyway.
