As I finish making selections for my project
I realized I have one component I've missed in the selection process...wheels!

The truck is a 1949 Chevrolet 3804 1 ton single wheel pick up.

I want to go to a plain jane steel wheel that will fit the stock brakes.
215-16s will go on the front
255-16s on the back

I had planned on using new style 8 bolts as they are the right pattern but thought I would consult here before laying out the cash.

Anyone found a good solution?

Tom,
I've got a single axle one-ton as well and stayed with the 17 inch wheels for the large diameter. Unless you've swapped the rear out, anything smaller than the nearly 33" tall 17's just results in higher engine rpm and/or slower road speeds. Bottom line is I'd look at the tire diameter and try to get as tall of a tire as possible.

Your truck looks like mine!

Except my paint is heavily faded and I have the chrome grille.

Nice truck.

The P255-85-16s are 33.095 tall by manufacturer specs for the Kumo's I want to use.

Up here the 17's with tubes are over $1200.00 for a set...and then no one will install them on stock rims.

Thats why I need to move to one piece 16's

Appreciate the advise though.

Tom

Don't discount the 19.5" options just yet.
Here's a picture of my 1 ton with 8x19.5" tires.

I think they are as tall as you can fit under the fenders at stock ride height.

You don't want the wheels I ran, but you can find very nice and original looking single 19.5" wheels in the junkyards (I know where s set is, but already spoken for, point is they are out there)

Or for new wheels you can get them here, but they don't look as original as I would want.

Check the backset of those modern 16" rims. Make sure that they and the radial tires don't rub on your tie rod ends.

Here is a photo of my 3800 pickup with the wheels Grigg spoke of. They will accept original
hubcaps. Mine came off of a bread truck.

Thanks for the tips guys

Appreciat the logic on the 19.5's and do see the benefits but I'm going t do some checking in this part of the world as too availability.

Last time a friend tried to get 19.5's for his older motorhome up here he had a heck of a time finding them, which is why I wasn't going that dirction.

But before I make a final decision I will re check...maybe times have changed.
