Sean should be able to give both the frame/cushion measurements and the floor-bolt geometry measurements. My guess is that the seats are different (between series), especially the middle seats. However, Sean thinks the seats might be the same (for both series). The frame/cushion design might not be the same for both series (this might only be a minor consideration). Maybe GMONIZ will post better information? Tim | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | I'm considering Sean's seats. He thinks they are the same. I'd like to hear from someone who knows if they are.
I'm trying to determine this from a 1939-54 GMC MPB and a Series S,T,X,Y GMC MPB. The cushions are all different numbers but I'm assuming that may be because they were ordered by color.
The rear seat frame for the STXY series is a 3737912 with a note that it replaces 3807874, which is the number given for the rear seat frame in the '39-54 book.
The center seat frame in the STXY book is listed as item 23.3540, part #3737911. There is no item 23.3540 listed in the '39-54 book. There is an item #23.3626, complete center seat. But there are no complete seats listed in the STXY book.
So I am confused.
The pictures Sean sent show arms on the center seat. Tim, does your '54 have these?

Yes, the center seat on my '54 Suburban has arms. Sean should also have arms on his 1950 GMC suburban (same as on Chevrolet). He should be able to compare the 55 arms with the A-D/ND arms.
Send me the photo you received from Sean. I'll compare it to mine.

I bought a set from Sean last year, one was a earlier AD seat like a 50 or 51 and the other is a late 50's and they both match up to every other seat I have seen in other Suburbans either in person or on the 'net. My boss has a 57 Chevy Suburban and those seats look to be the same as what I saw in Tim's 'Burb this past June at Macungie.

If that is correct, unless you took the seats out and measured the holes, you would think they are the same.
If someone has a 1948/55 suburban they should measure the floor mounting spacing and compare it with someone who has the 1955/9 suburban. If the floor mounting spacing are the same, then the seats will mount in either a 1948/55 or a 1955/9.
Cletis, measure the spacing on your suburban and let's put a call out for a task force guy to measure theirs. Another way is to have sean measure his mounting holes on the seats he has and post them. I can measure mine this weekend.
Sean, can you post any pictures of your seats? Thanks | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | My center seat holes: Forward left hole- 11 7/8" from left wall. Forward right hole- 19¾" from left hole. Aft left hole- 6¾" from left wall. Aft right hole- 30¼" from left hole. Aft holes are 9" aft of forward holes.
My rear seat holes: Forward left hole- 7¼" from left fender well. Forward center hole- 19¾" from left hole. Forward right hole- 13 7/8" from center hole. Aft left hole- 2" from left fender well. Aft right hole- 30¼" from left hole. Aft holes are 9" aft of forward holes.
Note: the left 4 rear seat holes are the same spacing as the 4 center seat holes.
Even if the 55-59 seats will bolt up I'm also concerned with seat height. I now have a rear seat from I think a '60s burb in the center position and it is mounted on 2X12s to raise it.
I don't know how high the seats should be. Would someone measure that in a '47-54?

The set of seats I have for sale in the part section are from 55 gmc 2nd series. I do have a 1950 suburban as Tim mentioned, with the original seats. I will match them up this weekend, get measurements, etc. to get the final say on this never ending question. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 23 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2005 Posts: 23 | Ok, So for those not following the post. I do have a 1950 GMC sub with the original seats and a set of 55 GMC suburban seats. After measuring them up, the second and third row seats the same in terms of measurements.
Second row seat: both 50 gmc (first series) and 55 gmc (second series):
Height from floor to top of frame: 29 1/2 inches Width (back of frame, not including the arm rests: 36 inches Arm Rests: from the floor to the highest point: ~15 1/2 inches Front mounting holes to floor: ~20 inches a par(2 mounting holes) Rear mounting holes (#2): ~30 inches a part Seat Cushion: 20 inches x 35 inches Bach Cushion: 22 inches x 35 inches
Third row seat: both 50gmc sub and the 55 gmc sub.
Floor mounts (Front): 1 inch x 20 inches x 34 inches on the tape measure Floor mounts (Rear): 1 inch x 30 1/2 inches x 45 inches on the tape measure Seat Cushion: 51 inches x 20 inches Back Cushion: 51 inches x 22 inches.
If anyone has additinal questions or need additional measurements, don't hesitate to ask. I think this will clear up quite a bit of confusion.

Are there any differences at all, paint etc? Are the front seats the same or are they different, mounting, size etc?
Thanks for the hard work! This should clear up the question, once and for all! | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | Thanks for the measurements, Sean. | | |
