The 4.2L-6 cylinder turned over, but didn't fire. Usual thing first start of the day.. after that just a click of the solenoid and the volt guage jumps. Checked voltage 12+ at battery, into solenoid and, when key is in start position, coming out of the solenoid. Tried putting power straight to starter...nothing. Replaced this 2 month old starter with a brand new one. She turned the key...click, a light orange spark at the battery and nothing. Had to get to work and didn;t have time to check voltages. I will check voltages and probably replace the solenoid tomorrow.
Any other suggestions? This thing has the separate Ford solenoid and starter set up.

Can't remember the name just now but it controls the fuel injection. Without it you get spark but no fuel. You can get a new one and replace them easily. Try your local FLAPS (friendly loca auto parts store)

No fuel injection.. and nothing more than the clicking of the solenoid. Won't spin the starter... turned the engine over with a wrench, so it didn't suddenly seize. Don't have time today to work on it.. but keep the suggestions coming.

The spark at the battery and talking to one of the mechanics led me to look closer at the cables. All cables were in good shape, but the ground wire at the battery terminal was very slightly loose. I cleaned the connection and retightened it and... Voila.. it started. Everyone is happy again. While I was mucking around in the engine compartment I also found out why it was idling so rough and would stall occaisonally. Daughter is really happy now. thanks for all the help.. and I'll remember jeepforum for the problems that WILL (not may) happen in the future.
