If it's in good shape it is the relatively safe kind, a lock ring wheel, not the unsafe "split rim".

Hy Perry Dean, If as Grigg says it is in good shape then it should be reuseable, I see a small angle grinder in one picture, with a wire wheel on it, that's the right idea, clean the heck out of it with that thing, then inspect the heck out of it for cracks, bruises, burrs, missing chuncks, etc. and if the ring and the wheel gutter are undamaged, you should be okay to reuse, keep us updated with your progress please.

Thanks Grigg
Thanks Bobb
i took the tire apart cleaned it and made sure there were no bad places on the ring and seat plus wire brushed the insides of all rust n dirt.
i dint know what to expect so i played it safe i put my front end loader on it when i aired it up to 90 lbs {tire says 95} then tapped the ring with a hammer to make sure it was seated.

Another trick we used to use when changing tires out on the road was to wrap a piece of heavy chain through the hand holes on the rim while airing up a split ring wheel. A clip-on air hose about 10 feet long with a ball valve to control the airflow gives the tire man some breathing room, also.

Exactly. 90% of deaths/injury from split rims could have been avoided if people didn't get so comfortable and cozy with them..... It's like playing with a gun... Someone will get hurt eventually.

Amazingly enough, I did all my rear 20" rims/tires by myself with the help of a BFH. The new tire guys were giving me grief, about my "widow makers",NOT!.(old tire guys retired) So when I had the tires off, I wired/grinded and painted, before I put the new tires on. I feel much better now, having done it myself. I did put a chain through the rim and around the tire, when I was reinflating...just in case.

Same here. I just got done taking all 6 wheels off my 47, dismounting them, cleaning them with a grinder with wire wheel,
a coat of Rustolium, and back together. I also have the luxury of a frnt end loader, and used my home made bead breaker / reinstall tool to make things easier than a BFH...

agreeded these wheels can be like a gun, I also used a chain, and a locking air chuck... Check out "MY 47 loadmaster" pictures.

keep us posted, and thanks to all the bolters that been there for me too
