For helping keep this great

I reprimed both doors and rear fenders. The primer is much smoother now. Tonight I thought I would just sand one door with 400 grit. Well it was coming along great when a little rough spot appeared near the crease in the upper part of the door below the window. The more I sanded the bigger it got.
When I finally spread it across the entire door I stopped.
I think this was due to the conditions, I painted yesterday when it was raining. The truck was closed up in the garage for the whole day as I was off on another job. I just don't think it cured completely and I rubbed through it where the crease is and the paint is naturally a little thicker there.
What a Pain! the rest of the door looks fabulous...best body work I have ever done.
I will let it cure a few days and try to re sand and smooth out the rough spot.
Any advice is alway welcome.

What kind of primer are you using? | | | | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 1,028 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 1,028 | I didn't realize it was still soft I was sanding for a few minutes. I think the issue is wit the humidity and cool temp it didn't really cure. By the time I realized the rough spot was soft it was too late. I hope in a day or 2 I can sand it out.

That is if your using something like 2k primer.. The stuff I use will dry in 20-30 and I can sand it.
I did not think that humidity would bother primer all that much. I do know for sure it does not mess with the stuff I use. Of course I am not talking about spraying it in the rain.

I let it set for another 24 hours and it was fine. It sanded very nicely. I am not sure if iot was the damp or the cool temp but it seems fine now.
I am in the midst of sanding and glazing now. I think I am about 30% done on my way to paint. Of course the more I sand the more imperfections I find to fix. But I think it will be worth the time and effort.
One question I have always sanded metal with 60 grit before priming. I am sanding my primer with 320 to 400 grit before paint. It seems very smooth. Will I have adhering trouble with the paint if the pimer is that smooth? It is almost glossy.

180 grit is good for bare metal. You primer will fill the 180 scratches a lot easier than 60 grit.
No better smell than that of fresh paint. I've been building and painting cars/trucks for 47 years. Not gonna stop now. http://www.coxcustomcars.com/ | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 874 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 874 | "This is a single stage oil based primer"
