My 54 1/2 ton was not stock when purchased. I was told that the entire rearend and axle assembly are mid 70's from either a Malibu or Nova. Would like to know more specifically so I can get some needed parts. The casting numbers on the driver's side of the chunk are "N" and then "F17". Farther toward driver's side but upside down is the number "1251502". On the passenger side, upside down, is "GM19". Would appreciate any help. Thanks. Williejoebob

The Malibu came with coil springs on the rear so you should be able to see where the spring, trailing arm, and pannard bar brackets have been cut off and ground. The Nova had a leaf spring rear.

Coilover---would you happen to know the gear ratio on the Malibu, or would that vary?

Hy williejoebob, does the rear axle have a removable center section or is it integral? If it is integral, how many bolts hold the rear cover on? And the final question how wide is the rear axle assembly, inside of backing plate to inside of backing plate?

I will get those answers and get back to you, probably tomorrow, as I am not near the truck tonight.
Thanks.

It is integral. There are 10 bolts that hold the rear cover on. And it is around 55 & 9/16ths inches from inside of backing plate to inside of backing plate.

Hope that helps. Thanks again.
