Hello everyone, I have 60 chevy c10 shortbed stepside p/u. I really want to lower it but cannot afford to "kit it" w/the dropped spindles and disc brakes and booster and such. I know lowering the rear is fairly straight forward by installing drop springs and possibly shorter shocks. My question is about the front...it has torsion bars that can be cranked down, but,I want to go atleast 4 inches. Will this create any problems such as to much negative camber and if so, can the upper control arms be shimmed out to correct it, I am hoping so. Thanks.

Well, the torsion bars are adjustable, but I highly doubt you'll get it down 4 inches by doing that. Maybe an inch, if that. I've been considering lowering mine too (its a 61 fleetside) but if I do, I'm going with the "kit". But I see what you mean about it being pricey.

I know this is a bit of work but you might be able to swap in a later model front suspension(you get disc brakes too), which should be basicly a bolt in and use dropped spring and/or spindles. Do a search for I believe it's using a 79-87 front suspension.

I got a lot more than an inch drop out of my torsion bars. I have 'em cranked down pretty far, but I would say at least two if not two and a half. It looks lowered and people notice it. Now all I need to do is the back.

Kyle, how does it ride now that you adjusted the torsions?

Is there any fear in backing that out too far and not having enough threads on the bolt that holds the bar?

I was just curious?

Let there be peace over your home, brother.

C10,

When I bough my truck the PO had the front lowered so bad that if you turned and hit a bump, the tire would smack the fenders. When I had the front end adjusted the mech measured that he had lowered them at least 4 1/2 inches and noticed that the "bolts had about a 1/2" left.

Also if you do this yourself, PLEASE spray Kroll oil or PB Blaster all over the bolts and nuts. Let it soak a day and go back the next day and resoak the nuts and bolts. If not you are taking a chance to snapping the special shaped lock nut they used and THERE ARE NO REPLACEMENTS.

The suggestion of using a late model front cross memeber is good, but dosen't work with a 60-61. It doesn't just bolt up like a 63 or later.

Been there.

I don't think you are going to get 4 inches cranking down on your torsion bars.

I would save my money and buy some dropped spindles.

Chevytrucknut61,

Did you get your drop spindles through LMC? If so, what shocks did you get for the front once the spindles were installed? LMC can't tell me if the shocks in their catalog will work with the drop spindles that I bought through them?

I've got a 61 as well.

Thanks.
