Sleeper55 is pricing things for her 551st and has priced a set of custom chrome pipes and mufflers for her truck. $300 for all of it, for dual exhaust, engine to rear bumper with 5 year guarantee. Is this price in the normal ballpark? I know nothing of this type of stuff nowadays. Says he makes his own glass packs (without the glass) and knows how to put in the cross over between the two exhausts. This is something out of my area of knowledge so I figured I would ask.

What I thought was really different was- He has a muffler shop and he is wearing a hearing aid in each ear. I wonder why?-LOL.

The prices sounds ok. If you like glasspacks I would go with Smithy's. They should last much longer than something he could make. They sound good too. I wouldn't want a crossover. It would take out some of the character of the sound coming from two pipes by evening it out.

$300 would be about the going rate for a complete, custom bent exhaust system around these parts, and that's for plain tubing, not chrome. A decent chrome job on all the pipes and mufflers would double that, at least. So that price seems almost too good to be true. FYI, Patrick's new catalog shows a dual system in polished stainless and he says it will go for about $600 complete.

The whole system is chrome? I doubt that. That wouldn't last, and how would he weld it?

That price sounds good,a local shop got me for around 400 to make the duals on my 37. They told me 250 when I called them and when it was on the rack they told me another price. I probably could of found a cheaper shop but they were down the street and the only shop that could do it that day, plus I was excited in driving the truck on the street for the first time since 58. Just got a dual system with 2" pipe and flowmaster 40's engine to bumper for $225 and that's Aluminized pipe.
