I just bought a 1951 3100 and the vin plate is missing. Is there a place on the frame or anywhere else to find the vin #?

FOUND THIS BY SEARCHING "VIN# ON FRAME"

Most of these old trucks were titled by their engine number.

krp....I have had my truck stripped to virtually the last nut and bolt, and have found no chassis/ID # other than the one on the left hand door check in the cab.
As you will see by GMONIZ's link, they did not stamp chassis rails with an ID until the TF(second series) trucks.

I have the original 'pink slip' from my truck when it was in Ca.
It's Vehicle ID number is/was the original engine #.

If California was an engine number state your VIN will be the engine number. If California wasn't an engine number state or the original engine has been replaced the state will have a method of resolving your problem. This gets discussed a LOT. Doing a search using VIN in the search box will get you hours of reading.

thanks Jockbolter, hopefully the CA DMV agrees when I register it. The title I have is from MO and lists the engine # as the vin #.
Anyway, thanks again.

California did register the VIN as the engine number up to around 1957
