Can anyone tell me the difference in the exhaust manifold off a 235 or a 216? I'm looking for one for my 235 however the two look very similar, I wanted to see if there is a cast number or something that may direct me to find the correct one. Thx

Kent,

What year is your 235?
Is it a truck 235 or a car 235?
If it is a car 235, did it come with a Powerglide transmission?

In order to correctly answer your question, the above information is necessary.

Locations of casting codes and the engine serial number are shown on this web page. These codes will help to answer the questions above.

The basic difference is the 235 has larger ports & carb mounting. Like TC says there are many vaiations.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

" . . . difference in the exhaust manifold off a 235 or a 216 . . . "

Different intake ports and carb mountings on some of the earlier 235s. I think the exhaust ports on 216s and earlier 235s are the same.

The angle of the exhaust manifold's downward tube is different between newer 235s and older 235s/216s. The intake manifold has at least one difference in bosses for later 235s/261s.

Casting/serial numbers is the best way to proceed.

Kent,

Welcome to Stovebolt!!

If you're interested in casting numbers,
check out the Genuine Chevrolet Parts Catalogs.

The exhaust manifold is listed as:
Group 3.601

Master Parts Catalog 1954

and also

Master Parts Catalog 1957

I have a '41 intake and exhaust on the '53 car power glide engine in my '41 truck. #1) The mount for the carburetor was smaller than the 235 carburetor. So I used the 216 carburetor which was good since I wanted to keep the manual choke.#2 The intake ports were smaller than the openings in the head so I ground them larger. #3) the 216 manifold horn mount was where I wanted it to be. #4) The exhaust ports were smaller that the openings in the head so I ground them out. #5) The Exhaust manifold outlet pointed straight down unlike the 235's angled outlet

There are also differences in the flanges that attach the intake to the exhaust manifold. See pages 266 and 267 in the Master Parts Manual.
