For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 33 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 33 | I checked the code on my motor today next to the distributor, it is EEA374I67, meaning it is a 47 235 engine, I am very inclined now to say that my motor is the factory original. Now for the bad news, the motor is locked, someone left the plugs out over the time it set (figure about 15 years) Is it worth rebuilding the motor and taking the time with it, or should I just find another motor and put it in it's place. Kevin
If it's old and rusted out.... Well it's probably mine. That doesn't take but a couple of hours and then you will know what you have. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 . | | . If it will be a general play and work truck then swap for a newer 235 or 261, either a used or rebuild one. However, if the original frees up and runs get all the use you can out of it before swapping.

If you bore it and freshen up the crank, it will be almost good as new. People like Egge sell pistons for these old things pretty reasonable. If you are worried about it not to hold up to your use, quit worrying. I am old enough to remember when these things were new and they would go 50k miles on straight mineral oil between ring jobs. And that was full throttle all the time. With the lubricants we have these days, they will last much longer | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 | Pay to have the block and head checked out.
If they are good, a rebuilt low-pressure 235 will hold up fine doing what you say you plan to use it for. And, it will be original (if that is what you want, feel lucky, because there is no substitute for using the original engine).

If time and funds are an issue you could put a replacement I6 in for now, get the truck on the road and rebuild the original engine at your liesure. | | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 99 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2009 Posts: 99 | Fill the combustion chambers up with deisel (or Marvel Mystery Oil, there are lots of formulas that work). Go back inside and think about something fun. In a few days try to turn the crank. If it doesn't tunn, repeat. Until it turns or you get board. If it turns try to start it up. Who knows it may run.
