I might have the opportunity to get an 86 Jaguar xj12. I have seen some information on the web. Would this be a good option for good daily driver?

I say go for it.

A buddy of mine has an '86 XJ12. It makes for a very expensive daily driver because of what he has to spend keeping it going. Buy the car cheap and use the suspension under an old truck. That makes far more sense!

put a 350/350 in it and you really have a fun car. a buddy just sold one and even though it was a rustbucket inside was nice and comfy. amazing how they spent all the cars budget on drivetrain and none to protect the bodies.

well, I am still kicking around the idea, I might not have been clear. I want the suspension to put under my 51 3/4 ton. Before anybody says leave it original, I have two trucks, I am restoring one of them original, but I would like to make the other one a daily driver. What challenges does anybody see or anticipate before I actually spend any money or time on the project. No, I haven't put a tape measure to it but I have heard of it working. I would appreciate all input. thanks.

A few years ago a guy on the HAMB posted about putting Jag suspension under an AD truck. I don't remember any details but it might be worth doing some searching there to see what you find.

In many ways its like any other serious hot rod modification in that its likely to be more work and more money than expected at the beginning. The trick is to know enough before you start that you can get what you want when you are finished.

Fitting the Jaguar IFS and IRS setup to Chevy trucks is a common modification here in the UK. There are some pictures of a Jaguar front clip fitted to an AD truck chassis in this thread.

Jeeze, talk about being slammed to the ground. Here in New Mexico, that truck wouldn't get down these roads...but it would make a nice snow plow.

While I would very much like to have an IFS in my 3/4 ton too, (because they ride like rocks), I really think I would prefer to get the suspension off a truck if I can.

I set a xj6 cage inside my frame rails on my 1/2 ton today and I got super excited because it almost lines up perfect. I am planning on doing a c notch to the frame in order to get it lower. And when I do the c notch I am thinking of making the frame fit the angle of the jag cage mounting supports as it does in the car. So the jag rear will be a bolt in set up as in the car. Then if I want to change out to a 12 bolt or 9" later there is not much fab work to remove and replace.

5/8 ton, good idea about keeping the Big Cat caged!
It keeps the fabrication side easy,and unless your building a show truck it ain't gonna be seen!
BTW I'm guessing your a certain 'Gasser' guy on the HAMB!
Once you've driven it with the Jag IRS you won't want to go back to a live axle!

Yeah I had an idea at one time to run a straight axle in my '53 but that idea quickly faded away before I signed up there again. I was banned for a bit there. I might still do the gasser theme with a willys overland panel truck. I have a bbc 427 with dual carb tunnel ram and a turbo 400 I was planning to use, and I have 2 bodies and frames sitting in the back yard. Maybe then I could sell one of them if it were completed?

I am just excited to have gotten some work done last night and I wanted to share. And this truck its going in will just be a driver. Nothing to show off with this one.
