i have a 63 C-10 with a 79 350 V8. i have had an oil pressure problem. when the truck is cold and i crank it up the oil pressure guage will max out 80psi is the highest it will go but it will pass 80 and hit on the stop at 0 (probably right around 100psi when it hits). after the truck runs for a 3-5 minutes and warms up the guage will go down and run around 50-70 psi at idle. what is causing such high oil pressure? another thing if i would give it any gas after i first cranked it up it would blow the oil filter seal out the side and start leaking oil. i am pretty sure the guage is accurate.
Thanks YC

In the oil pump there is a spring and a seat the spring tension give You the PSI ,could be the spring is stuck , I would think the best thing to do is replace the oil pump .

Pete is right. The pressure release valve is stuck.

They sell oil pump rebuild kits, too, that have those springs and needles.

if the engine and oil pump are stock, then either the spring is stuck or there is gear lube in the engine sump.

If the engine has been built for racing, then there is most likely a high pressure / high flow pump installed.

I used to run 100+ psi when cold and 80+ warm in my built Buick V6. That was needed to keep the mains and rods oiled at 8000 RPM as that engine oiled the cam first, then the crank.
