I just installed new Park Lights on my 54. Light assemblies have 2 wires, orange & white. Wired Park Wire from Headlight Switch to both Orange wires on lights. Turned on & both work bright. I then wired Lt Turn Sig. wire to White wire on left park light & Rt. Turn Sig. wire to white wire on the right park light. Both work but both slow and faint, probably can't be seen. Did I do something wrong or do I need to ground somehow. No ground wire on chrome assembles???

Sounds like you need to reverse the wires, orange to the turn signals and white to the park light terminal. There shouldn't be a ground wire, the '55-'59s are the same way.

Longbox, I tried your suggestion and the turn signals are very bright now. The Park lights work also but are just a bit yellow instead of white. May be my battery is down. I did this without a ground as you suggested. Thanks for you help, you saved me alot of aggravation. Boy, this site has helped me a lot over the years.

when wiring a dual filament turn signal think about what it will do and look like to others...
Sounds funny huh?

if you wire the parking bulb to the dimmer of the two filaments you will always see it 'on'.
You then wire the turn signal side to the brighter filament. so even when the truck's lights are on ...
You will always see the turn signal flashing brightly in the day/night.
Ps It grounds thru the grill to the lamp holder. that works fine. if needed just scrape the bolt area w a bit of sandpaper.

If it were me, I would run a ground to one of the attaching bolts.
