Got ya covered! Last winter I installed a 49-52 Chevrolet passenger car fuel tank in the rear frame of my 65 C10 Shortbed.

Check out the following link and also check out my "Webshots" photos link at the bottom of this page for a bunch of pictures.

This conversion requires welding. It also involves trimming of the bottom frame rail inner lip. This needs to be done to allow the gas tank to drop out from the bottom of the truck. As the pictures show I removed the bed from the truck to do the work, this is a necessity for access. Basically if you have a Sawzall and a welder (or access to a buddy with these) you can do this conversion.

Let me know if I can be of help.

Spanky,

Your '62 should be the same as my '65 in regards to the rear suspension and location of the new tank. Therefore the parts and methods I described should work for you also.

John

Classic Truck parts sells a full kit(tank, sender, brackets, etc) for locating the tank in the back for about $200.I have a 63 panel which comes with the tank in the back under the bed (wrotted of course) so this kit will be my option. You really don't want to use a panel/subrb tank because theyre shaped to fit the spare therefore cutting down on your tanks capacity.

FYI: The tank in the Classic Truck kit will hang down low and be visible from the side the truck. I know of a few guys who used this set-up and were dissapointed because of this.

I used a 15 gal aluminum tank I got from Summit. You can see it from the rear but hardly visible from the sides. It doesn't cause me any lost sleep.
