How do I replace the rear oil seal. My shop manual says I have to press off the speedometer drive gear off the yoke. Has anyone had any experence replacing this seal.

I have no experience with this. But if the shop manual says do it, its probably the way to go. Hopefully someone will chime in.

OK, We need some more information. Is this a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton? Are we talking about the rear seal on the trans or the engine.

I can tell you this much. If we are talkin 1/2 ton trans there isn't a rear seal on the trans. The 3/4 ton trans I don't know about. I'm sure someone else can answer.

If we are talking about the engine rear seal, there is no need to pull the spedo drive gear.

Hope this helps.

Its the rear oil seal on a 1 1/2 transmission. I was able to press it off at work the other day. I had to put 2500 pounds of presure on it so it would break free. But thanks for the help.
