I purchased a set of the 57 style brackets for my truck but from a car place.

Here is a picture: ignition wire brackets

Looking at some photos of other trucks it looks like:
1) the longest goes on top drivers side.
2) the triangleuar shape goes on top passenger side
3) the loose 4 wire holder goes on passenger lower rear and is free hanging
4) the mediun sized bracket goes off driver lower rear and is fixed to bellhousing mount to keep it out of way of shifter and exhaust.

I am kind of guessing on 3 and 4. One pic I have shows loose wire holder on passenger lower side. But I have nothing that shows the drivers lower side.

The 55-59 factory assembly manual shows a different kit. the 55 kit: 55 ignition wire kit

And the two brackets that look the same are on the lower left and right to handle the wires. The little clips are for carrying the wires to the plugs.

But they were not used for 57 (I guess) and used the bananna guards (lower ignition wire supports) like these for 57:

There those guards used on trucks or did they use the little clips for 57 on trucks?

Does anyone have an autoritative answer for a 57 V8 3100?

If I am going to go thru the troble of doing it I thought I aught to do it the "correct" way that it had for the 57.

all the looms you show are not original factory - original 283 wire looms are these, no seperate rubber bits, just metal clips .... also note that Danchuk sells car parts, not truck, although the offered looms aren't correct anyway, they're modern interpretations, the only "correct" ones you'll find will be used

Right, I know Danchuk sells car parts that is why I stated I bought them from a "car place".

But anyways the 55-59 TRUCK Factory Assembly Manual does show that all the brackets have grommets. Not like the ones you showed but like the ones Danchuk sells. But they list it for a model 5000.

The ones you show for the "along side of oil pan" differ from the factory assembly manual page section 6 sheet 4.
That page says it is for a model 5000 not a 3100 but none of the 3100 pages show a V8 so we are left to your imagination.
That is why I am asking for help. Here is the full page I was refering to above:

On there they show grommets 3707952 on the small L brackets ("along side of oil pan"). lower spark plug clips


The other drawings also show a long oval 4 hole grommets on each of the supports. Same Full page see Item grommet 3719963.

So that is for some years between 55 to 59. And is for V8 model truck 5000 (a big truck).

What I was asking is what combination of these Danchuck parts is the correct fit for a 57 3100, if any?

If you are saying that those supports you show are correct then I need the little L brackets by the plugs.
And the ones I have will have to do for now. But I was also asking about the various exhaust manifold guards.
Some go around the tops of the plugs and some just shield behind the down pipe from the Ram horn exhaust headers.
I do not see either on that page but thought I saw some elsewhere or maybe it was on some truck motor pictures.


The parts I have are different than what you are showing but they match what is used in the assembly guide for trucks on V8.
I am surprised that they used the brackets you are showing with no grommets since they show grommets in the Factory assembly guide.

Does anyone else also have these type of grommetless wire supports for a 57 V8 265 or 283 like Red58 is showing?

that manual was written in 54 [see dates on the sheets], when engineering needed instructions for the grunts but wasn't finalized yet, and in the beginning the V8 in trucks [265 in 55] was expected to be for med and HD, not light trucks .... what's shown in the assembly manual isn't necessarily exactly what wound up on vehicles, there where "running change" sheets issued regularly that never made it into the reproduced book, and things would have been quite a bit different by late 57 when the 283 started being put in 3100's

I'm sure there was a variety used over the life of the 283, but the supports I have are the only style I've ever seen on original 283's, they're shaped so the wires just fit, no room for rubber [that's why I used the 'tool handle dip' rubber on them] - I'm sure exhaust manifold shields were a later invention [maybe aftermarket] when problems showed up from poor wire routing

Thanks for the additional explanation. It is real hard to find anything original around here in california that was a V8 version of a 3100, Most have Camaro front ends or blown or supercharged motors or anything but original!

My goal is to keep it close to original but have it driveable. Since mine has a V8 vin and has a V8 in it I want to make it look more original. Right now wires are all hanging all over the place!

Well I got around to thinking about installing these and trying to find the correct heat shields to work with a V8 with ramhorn center dump exhaust manafolds.
