On almost all colors of 1954 painted grills, the inner part of the middle and lower "bars" were painted Thistle Gray (the same color as the painted hub caps).
Because the red exterior color bled through the Thistle Gray color, the inner bars on Commercial Red trucks were painted Argent Silver. Also, 1954 trucks that were painted Pure White also had Pure White inner bars (thus, their complete grill assembly was Pure White)
The inner bars of 1954 chrome grills were painted Pure White.
In 1955-1st series trucks, the painted grills were white with black inner bars.
