For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 25 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 25 | I hope this is the right forum for this. I have a 36 chev with a straight axle. The steering box needs to be rebuild and I can not find a kit, so some one told me to put a rack & pinion steering from an 80 Omi in. I have looked at putting the unit in, but I am not sure where to connect the rack & pinion to? Does it have to be connected to the frame or can it be connected to the axle. The axle will move up & down about 3 inches.

I would follow the link Grigg posted.
And yes, a rack needs to be connected to the frame, or you will bind the steering during suspension travel(bad)
