Hi everybody, great place here.
I just purchased a 57 235 from a pickup, complete, got it running on the ground, ran a compression check,150 psi across the board, great so far. I pulled the dipstick and the oil was milky,it looked ok before I ran it but I did not tap the drain plug first, so I dropped it and put in new oil. I ran it about 10 or 15 minutes and put about 2 quarts of water in the oil again. now the part I dont understand, I put 150# air pressure in each cylinder and I dont get one bubble from the thermostat housing (thermostat removed). What am I missing? where else besides head, gasket, or cylinder can water get to the oil? Is there hope here or do I have another anchor for that 50 footer I've always wanted? thanks

The head gasket could be leaking between an coolant passage and the oil returns from the head. That's an easy fix. It could also be a cracked water jacket. I would suggest pressure checking the cooling system. It should hold steady pressure if it is not leaking. I would also suggest dropping the pan and checking the block internally with pressure on the system for any leaks/cracks. If nothing there, then pull the head and inspect the gasket.

Thanks longbox55, I really needed new input. I was going to pull the head tonite but I decided to chill and hit it again tomorrow, I like your idea, I'll pull the pan first and see what I can see from the bottom, seems like I should be able to see that much water
