This question is for anyone here who has swapped a 427,etc into a 1955-59 chevy 2 ton [60]?The main question is there a L.H. exhaust manifold that will work with the stock steering post location?

Search for 'Grant in Roy' or user names that look like Heavy Hauler, but are spelled a little funny.

Grant was building a big block powered truck and I can't remember if it was a Task Force or a 60's truck. But he had a lot of pictures including his approach to steering.

I've not seen him post in a while and last I knew he was real busy working.

427 in a TF - you can see the header manifold there, standard kinda thing, should be the same with any conventional cab model

Thanks for the replies..I was just hoping for an easy swap, the truck came here not running, and I hate having to move a dead vehicle...To swap one into a 1960's truck,no problem,I have done it a few times.....As far as a TF,first one I have ever owned.I was trying to avoid using headers,I hate them.If there is not a cast manifold for it,it will stop right here.If surgery is required,I will do the 4-53 from a rusty D-60 later in the summer.

Grants truck is a '56. This is from the Gallery Page. Here is a write up on it from the Gearz site.

That's a nice truck. The '58 here has 8,395 miles on it,has a 283 that got rain water in it and froze and split it.The kid I got it from pulled the nose off in anticipation of a fix-up that he never had time for.The GarWood dump body is about as perfect as you can get, barely a dent in the floor,or the sides. It came from an orchard,a friend got it from the original owner. The driver's door got hit pretty bad, rest of the cab nice for 50 years old.Have to post up pics soon.Al

My 59 jimmy had the pontiac based v8 from the factory. GMC's sollution was to use 2 right hand pontiac exhaust manifolds. That made the driver's side a front dump, and the passanger side a rear dump.

To keep it symmetric, I would imagine you can swap the left and right manifolds on the 427 to get the clearence you need.
