While surfing the net, I've seen a heap of threads on the net about the 1/2 ton brake swaps. I have an 8 bolt pattern, I figure I'll have to go to either a 5 or 6 lug pattern.

My questions are, (1) Has anyone done a swap like this? (2) Can I use the 1/2 ton set up on my C20?

Since you call your truck a C20 I'm guessing its a later Stovebolt with an IFS.

That being the case you can either swap a '72 to '87 IFS under it, getting the disk brakes in the process, or there are in fact kits to convert an IFS 3/4-ton to 1/2-ton spindles allowing using 1/2-ton disk brakes.

What year is your truck?

Jim Carter's has a kit to convert 3/4 ton (or 1 ton) 8 lug drum brakes to 3/4 ton (or 1 ton) disk brakes, 60-72 I believe. This is the only kit I know of that retains the 8 lug pattern.

Jim Carter's website is oldchevytrucks.com. The kit part number is HP524, I believe.

Most 1/2 ton conversion kits have a dropped spindle that I don't care for. It would be fine for a truck that I planned to drop, but when I did my 1/2 ton it was on my work truck - so I just did it using later stock pieces (on a 66). If you have an IFS truck I'm sure you could do it that way too.
