The parking brake cable portion that goes into the rear backing plates has a spring over the cable. Does the end of this cable slip into the notch on the lever or am I missing a part here?
The old cable had a clevis made on it that fit into the notch of the parking brake lever.
Should this be cut off the old and put on the new cable?
TIA
Don

Don, its been a while since I had my 50 and do not remember that far back!
But, on my 52 you pull the spring back and slip the cable down into the slot/notch of the lever. Yours may be different as its the Huck brake style.
At least this will give you something to read until an expert gets her.

Oh, you can find the link around here somewhere to the online service manual a bolter has put together. That should help out a lot.

EDIT: how far are you from Spartanburg?? We will be having our Southern Stovebolters 2nd Annual Reunion the 30th of May. Think you can make it?? Send me a PM and let me know. I can put you on the mailing list.

Huck system ebrake has an end clip type arrangement (like a clevis) that connects the end of the cable to the lever. The new replacement cables don't have this, you have to use your old one off the old cable.

yep and the other end off of the old cable reuse also
I broke the bracket that holds cable up to the frame trying to spred it open enough to get new cable in but a fender washer and bolt through good side holds it up just fine

How do you attach a new cable to an old end fitting? I guess the originals were swaged together?

The end that attaches to the lever has a slot in it to spread open , put onto new cable end and crimp it closed. The yoke at the threaded end of your ebrake cable attaches to the cross bar with a clevis pin and cotter pin.

Jim Carter's has replacements for the clevis and the clip at the end of the cable, and they're very reasonable priced. I bought 2 new clips for the ends.
