Does any one know where i can get one of these seals? I shall also be re-newing the grease seals on the hubs. But looking thru the 'classic parts' catalog i can't seem to find the diff seal. Can anyone help please. I live in the UK and could do with a little help with this one please. I can get the Carquest part numbers & check to see if Carquest will send them to you. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. have you got the pinion nut off? if not, have fun. if you do, you can use a micrometer to measure the od and id. that will help the auto store folks get you a seal that will work.
there is also a piece of felt rope stuffed in front of the seal. mine was in good shape and did not need replacing but if your's needs to be replaced that was a part i could not find. you might be able to use water pump packing.
a speedy sleeve may be needed as well if the pinion shaft has been worn by the old seal. | | | | Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 53 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 53 | wrenchbender, that would be great if you could see if they would send to the uk. Whats a Speedy Sleeve, and where can i get one. Tim | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | The part number for the pinion seal is 411330N. The felt is 5M88. The sleeve is 99259. The wheel seals are #2081. These are the National brand. The pinion seal was used on most 3/4-1 tons up to 1972. The wheel seals were used clear up into the 90's. Did you check a local parts store? It seems there would be a lot of Chevy trucks in that area. Our parts stores have parts for europe & asian vehicles. The sleeve is expensive for what it is but cheap for what it does. Let us know if you can't & i'll see what it takes to send them. George They say money can't buy happiness. It provides a new surface for the seal. NAPA has these parts and I think CarQuest has them as a set. | | | | Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 53 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 53 | Thanks guys.
