Tam Trucker, for trading or selling truck parts, you should post in the "swap meet" forum. However, just to clarify , the GMC and the Chevrolet radios are the same for the AD years. The only difference is the plastic dial face. The dials can be bought new from places like Jim Carter. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 422 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 422 | Truckernix, wouldn't you have to change the vibrator, beings Chevys were negative ground and GMC's were positive? | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | You might want to indicate (in the Swap Meet) the year of the radio you have and year of the radio you want (if they are different years). And/or post photos of the front of your radio's body and the rear of your radio's body (positioning the camera a little above the body and a little to the side of the body). If you are going to buy or trade, you'll want to be dealing with the right years and makes.
Chevrolet Advance-Design and GMC New Design radios changed some over the years (1947-1955). truckernix (and others) know the differences.
Also, I think truckernix has posted that positive/negative did not matter, as long as you do not have a replacement 6v solid-state vibrator (he'll correct me, if this is wrong).

There were two model runs for the AD years. Either model can be used in the trucks from 1947 to 1953. The first model was used from 1947 to 1950 and the back cover met the case on a slanted seam along the two vertical sides. These are known as the "slant back" radios. The model produced from 1951 to 1953 had a straight back with similar dimensions to the other GM radio backs. The two radios look virtually identical when installed in the truck although the dials are slightly different. The chassis have different configurations and there are some differences in the circuits. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 141 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 141 | Thanks, I thought that it would need to be positive ground, so I'll try to use the one that I have. No need to trade. | | |
