Lots of work on Brad's part ... pure enjoyment (and references) for you!

For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 52 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 52 | Can you put a rear end from a 54 Chevrolet into a 49/51 GMC??? If they are all 1/2 ton? What if it is 3/4 ton? Does it make any difference? Will the U-joints line up? Do Chevy/GMC have different wheel base lenghts?? My 51/49 gmc's are 116" and 125" respectively. Are the cheverolets different by something weird like 1.75" or something to where I can't swap thhem out??
AND--on my 49 GMC which is 248-I6, 6-lug-1/2ton, 125-1/4" wheel base, 4-speed truck, can I put a 56 Chevy 4 speed tranny with a PTO into the same truck? I want to turn the flat bed on the truck itno a light duty dump bed. So could I use a 56 Chevy 4speed with PTO as part of that project?? AND--what else would i need in addition to the PTO unit to make it a dump bed? Hydraulics, bracing, etc... I have seen some homemade type dump beds, but i would like to find some orignal factory made stuff just to make it easier. Thanks.
Whether you think you can or can't, you're right.
Also--in 2004, I invented the spotting alert network in stovebolt after seeing so many trucks when driving around. So that means I am cool.
