Hi folks,
Our dearly beloved 55' bus conversion" Bertha" has had her transmission rebuilt at our local Amcco, which as was expected, has taken a really long time.
Our problem now is that after the rebuild Amcco can't get it into reverse. they say that it just isn't adjusting externally as a 55 hydramatic should do.
Could it be some misidentification due to the fire at the Hydramatic plant a couple of years previous to production of this model ?
Any input anyone might have will be greatly appreciated, we really are anxious to get her out of there, we have other things to work on , thanks , Garyth

I have a GMC HydraMatic service manual ifd there are pages you want scanned and sent to you.

Contact Memphis Equipment. They offer a rebuilt and warranteed Hydramatic for the M135/M211 trucks. They should be able to help you out.

I will be going by Ammco tomorrow, I think they have a manual, you would think that Ammco would have their stuff together. that's why we went there.
We are planning to do a bunch of miles up into Canada, and don't want to be dealing with any major problems

In all honesty, those transmissions have not been around for quite awhile and actually are somewhat different from a modern day auto trans. Most of the people that have any experience with them have longe since retired. go to www.areds.com and get the 800 number and talk to Leon. I would bet he could steer you a direction.

Thanks Greg, when we had her towed in there they said, "Oh sure we can do that , no problem" we are at our wits end. We wanted a good job done, thats why we went there.
We have to do more work to our home, but we are going to be doing that right here in the yard ourselves. thanks again mate, Garyth

55 Skoolie...had a simialr problem when I went to my local Goodyear store. I had all the parts for a front-end rebuild and they said the same thing - "sure we can do that". Got er back and there were problems with the King pin fit. I eventually learned that they subbed out the work to a MACHINE SHOP! They took the whole axle assembly off and gave it and parts to the machine shop. Got em back and re-installed without checking the work. And now they wonder why I won't buy tires there. Good luck with the tranny. Mine is solid now but one never knows!
