i am ready to paint the grill on my 58 gmc and I noe realize I am not sure what parts are white and what parts stay the same as the truck body.
Headlight doors - White
front grill - White
Rear part of grill I thought it was white?
Bottom front parts of fenders - same as rear part of grill
Splash guard (bolted to from of inner grill behind bumper) same colour as truck

The piece that goes behind the grill and bolts to the bottom of the front fenders that has me confused. I thought that I remembered the indentation in the front of the fenders being white same the the headlight doors, white???

I was ready to paint everything white today and then realized that might not be right. I have been looking for pictures that can show me but no luck so far
Thanks

58 GMC, no-chrome model would have white grill and headlite doors - everything else will be body color on a solid color truck

I wonder if there was a different optioned tuck in Canada?
Mine came with chrome headlight doors and the grill was white.
There is also traces of white paint on the rear part behind the grill and the lower part of each front fender. I am not sure where the colour would change if it was painted like that.

the chrome bumper and headlight doors were individual options as well as parts of different chrome packages - and of course could have been changed by anyone in the last 50 years wink

aside from the possibility of the truck having been repainted at some point, there was a couple of different 2 tone paint patterns available .... mine is one pattern ... also note that the trim "white" wasn't really white, and a truck that was originally white, would have had the same [off-white] trim .... pick what pleases you

I painted the grill Arctic beige. The traces of paint I found sure seem like the original paint. The truck seems to only have had one repaint with a low quality enamel years ago that almost falls off.

I am wondering if it would be too much white if the the rear part was also painted white where yours has the red outline around the grill? The red background really makes you grill stand out nicely.

I wonder if anyone knows if this was paint option in Canada?

I doubt there was any different patterns in Canada, it was the colors that varied, not the patterns .... the reason that surround is red on mine is cuz it's 2 tone paint, if it was all red, that would have been red which is called body or 'upper color' on the 2 tone - if the lower part of your fenders were white and the tops weren't, it must have been a 2 tone
