My 55 cabover has a 261 engine in it and I was wondering if the lifters would be hydraulic or mechanical ?

The USA 261 truck engine came with mechanical/solid lifters (1954-1962). The Canadian 261 Pontiac engine came with hydraulic lifters (1955-1962).

Be careful. I was reading a manual the other day and there appears to be two types of solids. If yours are original to the engine, you're okay. If you are replacing them, you need to be sure to get the right ones.
