Any sites with dimensions? My 54 sits nice and low as is, not near enough, but low. just wonderin since it's an old hot rod, did they maybe do a dropped front axle. Thanx in advance for your inputs.

I don't have a measurement for you, just a thought. If your axle was anything other than stock, I think you would see re-forging marks or some other indication of a after factory modification...something that didn't look consistant with the appearance of the beam in an area where it wouldn't have been altered. I'm not sure, but I didn't think anyone "made" dropped axles, they only modified factory axles!

The axle is from a 1955 1st series truck, or at least it was before I sent it to Mor-Drop in California. I have no idea if they dropped my axle or sent me one they had in stock. [img] http://home.twcny.rr.com/schickling/1940Chevy/rebuild/dscn2213.jpg[/img] I went out to the garage and took a couple measurements. The top of the spring perch is 7 1/2 inches off the ground. The top of the axle, not incuding the wheel hub is 14 1/2 inches off the ground. That would mean I have a total drop of 7 inches. I never measured the standard axle and often wondered how much stretch Mor-Drop really put on the axle. What is this measurement on your axle? Oh and your springs could easily give you this much sag if they are flattened out. Let me know. Bill Schickling | | |

Bill, mine appears to have the stock "drop" like your above picture, and yes the springs are pretty flat up there. Kinda hard to measure just yet. Been starin at it all summer and tryin to get it in the barn and start cuttin.
All the stockers I've seen seem to be quite a bit taller than mine which is why I posted. There's also a SBC in the hole so weight may be a factor.
As I get really into this project I'll post a buncha pics. Once again thanx for the insights.

I had to modify the steering arms, tierods, etc. to make everything work but I like the desired results.
