All the typical sources sell them, Jim's , LMC and classic trucks but the last thing I want to do is put a junk kit in my 54. Any thoughts ? | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 1,867 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 1,867 | If your concerned try and find a brake shop locally to reline the clutch and rebuild the pressure plate. I had a goofy size in my COE and it ended up being about $125 total. You can usually bring those parts into your local parts store and they can send them off to be rebuilt, or they might know who will.

They are available at any parts store for a popular model like that. With the remans you never know what you are going to get. Sometimes they are too strong & other times they are soft. Sometimes they grind so much off the pressure plate surface that as soon as the lining wears down a little it starts slipping.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Auto Zone rebuilt ZOOM & wouldn't you know it, made in China. 1957 Chevrolet 1/2-ton Stepside LB in the Gallery My Photobucket shots The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873) | | | | Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 59 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 59 | It just doesn't feel right to put a Chinese made part into a quailty made US truck. | | | | Joined: Sep 2000 Posts: 136 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2000 Posts: 136 | In this vein, is there any danger in grinding a few thousandths off the flanges where the pressure plate bolts to the flywheel to increase the pressure? | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | That will not increase the pressure. It is built into the springs. If not done on a precision setup it will cause clutch chatter. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. They only go back to 1958. I don't think you can get a new BW clutch for an 216 AD. DG
