Tried to do a search did not find anything that appeared to address this topic. I know there were a few people working on the idea of putting Disc brakes on the stock 1 Ton setup I was just looking for insight. I would like to get away from the 8 lug completely, but right now I am open to any suggestions on how to make a swap.

Thanks

This past weekend I put my own eyes on John Henry's disk conversion project. He figured out the bearings, rotor and caliper to make it work, but has been stopped by a problem with the steering stops.

John is a careful thoughtful guy so I expect he'll figure it out, but the most recent news is his project is hung up while he works on it.

I haven't seen him post here in a while, but maybe if I tell him I posted about him, he'll jump in and give more details than I remember.

Regarding my own project I'm leaning very strongly toward going the IFS coversion route. This coming weekend I am going to do some more measuing and may mock it up.

I wouldn't even mind finding a way to get to a 5 lug setup in the front since that is probably how the back will end up also.

1/2-ton front axle with a five-lug disk kit.

Is that a direct swap in? and would the steering match up the same? Thanks

I haven't done it, but some have.
I think the 1/2 ton springs are narrower than the 1 ton springs, so probably have to slot some holes in the axle and use the larger U-bolts.
Steering should be OK.
