I put the covers back on after putting the rod back in place.
And now it wont run for [censored]!
Help I maybe the timing was ajusted way out to compansate for the rod being out. As I have not yet got a timing light I dont know.

Mark53,

Did you have to pull the cap or wires or distributor to get the sidecover off? Did you adjust the intake and exhaust on the cylinder that had the pushrod off.

Just getting the cylinder back on line shouldn't have made it run worse provided you adjusted that valve properly. It sounds like you whacked something out of kilter when you pulled the sidecover. Does this sound possible? Were they solid lifters?

You don't need a timing light. Just roll the engine over by hand (clockwise from the front)until the BB is under the pointer with the engine stopped, loosen the timing clamp, turn the dizzy clockwise until the points close, and turn back CCW until they just barely open. Lock the clamp down. The timing is set close enough to run without any problems. You can tweak it a tiny bit up or down from there for the best power and least detonation.

Mark53,

It never hurts to double check. The firing order is 153624, clockwise around the cap. #1 cylinder being up front near the fan.
