The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop 216 Head on a 235 Block

I received a phone call yesterday from a quy with this question... Will a 216 head work on a 235 block? The block is a 1956 and the head is a 1951 I believe he said. I told him the first thing he needed to look at was the oil porting.

Also, I told the guy that I would pose the question to the "experts" here on the 'Bolt. Any comments?

The short answer is no. They are not compatible.

Those years won't swap. Just count the bolt holes in the head and compare to the block - they don't match.

Duh, well that sure looks like the short answer. The reason I say duh is not because of your answer its because an "old timer" called me and asked the question.

I asked about the oil porting and such, therefore didn't think of asking him about the number of bolt holes.
