As i said in a previous post,i had a wobble in my left rear wheel.Sent the axles out,they were fine,had the wheel checked out,fellow said it was out a bit,he "straightened" it.Put it all back together,STILL got the wobble.I switched my wheels,i still had a wobble on the same side,ruled out the wheel.Made arrangments to go up to my spring shop and get him to put in the forge to straighten the flange.When i took it out i could not for the life of me see a wobble.Took measurments from the end of the shaft to the outside of the flange.It was the same all around.Then i got the bright idea to put the axle back in,fire the truck up and put it in gear to watch it spin.As i was putting it back in i happened to look at my brake drum.It has to weights on the face where the wheel would seat when installed,i put the drum on my wheel and lo and behold there was my wobble.My question is,if i take the weights off,what are the consequences if any,or should i get new drums?

If the weights aren't very large, you most likely won't notice a thing. Those are for balancing the drum, and at worst, you may get a vibration in the rear. I've taken weights like that off drums many times (usually due to the welds rusting away), and have never had any combacks from it.

Was working on a car in the shop that had these weights on the drums and one fell off so i decided to put it on a computerized wheel balancer and it was way off and had a rear shake. I installed a set that had the machined out areas used for balancing and the shake was gone. Nice find Roy.
