Even when the bolts between the 2 are loostened. My question is, can I take the whole thing to a machine shop and have the intake taken down so they are flush? Is there another fix I'm not thinking of? I know I will have the probably have to shave the rings that go between the intake and head too. thanks in advance jim | | |

The usual procedure would be to bolt them together with a new gasket in the position you want them. Take them to the shop and they are surfaced TOGETHER as a unit. Could there be any other reason that the exhaust manifold won't pull up to the head?

#50425 09/21/2005 8:04 PM | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 90 Member | Member Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 90 | make sure that the exhaust pipe is not acting as a long lever and might have moved from it's under truck attachments, thus pulling the short end (at the engine) away from the block causing an air leak.

Leave the intake/exhaust attaching bolts at the heat riser area slightly loose while the manifolds are being tightened against the head, then tighten these bolts last. You're probably dealing with a badly warped exhaust manifold due to heat. Jerry

My 52 GMC has the same problem also but it is much less severe. Probably have that one done too. I'll let the machine shop guys decide if they want the thing put together or not.
