Hi,
Does anyone know where I can buy bolt-in engine mounts to put a 292 in my 1950 Chev 3100?
Thanks,
Bob

You'll probably have to weld them in for added support to the frame. You should box the frame where the new mounts will go, the 292 mounts are offset, then weld in the arms that hold the ''donut rubber mount support kit'' to the frame. The engine mounts, bolt to the engine and rests on the ''donut'' style rubber mounts for a smoother ride.
Contact Buffalo Steve ~ Inliners International advertiser who can make you the set you need, Steve at Buffalo Enterprises - phone number: (360).652.7684 Arlington, Washington 98223. He doesn't have a web site so you have to call him. If he's gone, you can't leave a message. He told me once he still has a rotary telephone. You have to keep calling until you get him. The number is: 360.654.7684. Steve IS a great guy and has lots of information/ help.

Call Tom at Langdon's Stovebolt Engine Company. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful. Plus, his can be drilled and bolted.

you need to reinforce (box) the frame @ the new mounts regardless of how easy you want this to be

Boxing the frame around the mounts is no problem. I will be buying a welder in a few months. How much of the frame on either side of the mounts do you recommend boxing?

I cut the motor mounts out of a truck and then modified them to fit my 54 6100. I bolted them in and I haven't had any trouble hauling 10,000 pound load every day. Redcoat

For Safety
Boxing simply reinforces the frame so shorter motor mounts can be used. Hauling 10K means little in this case, we're talking motor mounts. Bob wanted to know who sells mounts and if you wish to bolt those mounts in situ then do so. That's not the issue. I'd use grade 8 bolts cause they don't cost that much more. I merely suggested to BOX the frame cause the 292 has side offset mounts... no front mount.
I also think that once the engine is in the correct setting w/ mounts attached it's easier to tack weld the mounts in situ. Mocking up holes and drilling then resetting the engine and bolting is more to do and that's fine also.

Bob you might also try::
http://www.chassisengineeringinc.com/engine_mounts.htm
Cushion Set C.E. designed for street rod use. Space age material is far superior to rubber. Impervious to gas and oil. Greater shock and sound absorption. Greatly increased resistance to deformation and temperature extremes. Thru bolt construction for safety. Larger cross section to support heavier engines. Mount will replace 1932 to 1948 on Chevy/Ford engine mounts. Then incorperate the cushion set mounts.

and w/ the 292 he can haul 10K w/ no problems....

my 2 cents
