i have a 52 3800, with a 235, finally got it to run but the heat gauge will not work, it looks mechanical how much of a problem to fix? this truck is for hauling wood, so if it is better to juct get one from the auto parts i will but would be nice to keep it stock any body tackle this? does the sender unhook from the back of the gauge? thanks for your time trying

The "sender" on your original-equipment gauge is actually a small-diameter tube filled with a liquid similar to Freon that expands when heated. No, it doesn't come apart. It's a professional restorer's job to rebuild that type of gsuge. I'd suggest an aftermarket gauge, either direct-reading or electric, unless you're doing a restoration of the truck. Getting an original gauge rehabbed is pretty pricey.
