Thought I would mention for folks working on "Big Bolt" brakes that there is a rebuilt Hydrovac listed on Ebay for $150 plus shipping. It's a "Buy if Now" price, so no bid is needed. You can just buy it.

I needed one for my 59 Viking (turns out it needed brake work two owners ago..they told me they just used the hand brake to stop it!) After comparing photos and researching part numbers, I bought one of these from the fellow..he lists it as a replacement for White and Studebaker trucks. Turned out it's also a direct replacement for the 59 Chevy Viking as well. I recieved the one I bought from him very quickly, two days if I remember right. I live in New Mexico, only one state away from the seller. After researching rebuild kits and rebuilt units from Napa and others, I figured $150 for one already rebuilt was a pretty good deal, and no core charge. He only has one left. Someone might be able to use it. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 226 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 226 | do you know if it would work on a 53 351 gmc coe? they seem to look the same. The GMC Master Parts Books indicates that the part number of the hydrovac unit on eBay (ID model 374980, part number 2241895) is for a 370 FCS GMC.
Hydrovac ID model 374000 (part number 2208488) was used on 350 series GMCs (up to at least 1953). This most likely does not mean that the eBay unit will not work; it might work fine by swapping some of the attachment fittings.
If I am incorrect, let's hope that someone corrects this.
Roy, GMC or Chevrolet COE - what size, if GMC? Is there a part # or ID on a tag or on the hydrovac's body?

If you are real interested let me know and I will go look at it and take some pics for you. They work because there's not that much difference in Bendix. In the 50's it was quite common to go out and buy a hydrovac and make it work. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 226 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 226 | I have just got the truck home this past week and with the storm I just got it cleared today. If the now rain stays away. I can get some work done.
I don't know anything about numbers ETC. until I can remove the unit.
Thanks for the parts numbers. It will come in handy. I need to make shure that the correct unit or a proven replacement is installed.

Is this off a running truck? and are you looking to get rid of the other parts that are in the system? If it is a running truck.... well. I may want it all.
